Passionately Inspired - and fast - Day 1

Updated: Aug 22, 2019

What if you woke up every day with an undeniable sense of hope and excitement?

Started your day with purpose, passion, motivation and tons of interesting things that you loved to do?

I've been a carny my whole life. I juggle, perform magic tricks, dance... generally, it's my job to have as much fun as possible, as often as possible. I've been a full-time professional entertainer/juggler for well over a decade and a half.. and it's been great... but generally my life amounts to mostly video games, and ideally fiddling with my balls. I've been a huge slacker, and now that I'm getting older, I can feel that I'm not living up to my potential.

I've spent a lifetime studying fun, human psychology, philosophy, the human attention span, and hypnosis. Why am I not doing the things I could easily do, that I know would make my life amazing?

Conditioning and the subconscious mind can be a pain in the ass, if we are not mindful. Habits can keep us stuck in a rut, cause us constant problems, kill our motivation and passion projects before we even begin. Perspective changes everything though. Your view of the world, is your experience of the world. Change your perspective, and you change the world in EVERY way.

The Power to have a completely different life, in all the ways you want, resides very easily within your own mind.

If you change your perspective for the better, you experience the same things differently. Marvel at the world; be fascinated by things, and you will find passion. Smile, and the world smiles back at you. This is one of the first things you learn as an entertainer. It's not a cheesy cleche, it's one of the most powerful things you can do. I could easily write 10 pages on this, but suffice it to say, it's an extension of the butterfly effect. Where a butterfly flaps his wings 100 miles away, and two weeks later, there's a tornado.. except we're talking smiles, and genuine happiness here.. so if you find and cultivate joy in your life.. a few weeks later you find the love of your life, your dream job, and a community you love to spend time with. You can be a whirlwind of change in your own life.

Fast, easy, effective. Powerful, permanent, change.

So I'm going to do a 100-day challenge, where I go from being a broke hermit who spends way too much time playing videogames... to a relatively wealthy socially active recluse, happiness engineer, game designer, and motivational speaker (who still plays a lot of games, but in a healthier way, that's infinitely more fun). My goal is the prove the effectiveness of this one simple concept, and how powerful this happiness "feedback loop" can be in having resounding joy and satisfaction within your own life.

Being amazing 101: The Golden Rule

Getting started - “The Pomodoro Technique”. One of the best motivation techniques I've ever seen. Do you think you could spend 25 minutes every day thinking about things you love, that inspire you? What if 25 minutes is all it took to drastically improve your life, finally develop some discipline (or more discipline), and made you feel great for the rest of the day? The science behind this is amazing, and couples with a lot of advanced psychological, neurological, and physiological scientific bodies of work.. and is the golden rule of my program.

Do this one thing. That's it, and the rest will follow. Spend 25 minutes in the morning thinking about what you REALLY want in life and all the ways it could happen. (or right when you get home from work and get settled, if that works better)

Complete one simple task that takes you 25 minutes or so, working on something you love, or have always wanted to do. Keep a diary. Write down what you do every day, and do it at least 5 times a week.

Make it a ritual. Really. I have a special light that I turn on when I’m getting started, that I only use for this. Make it simple, fast, and easy, and really resolve yourself to accomplishing something fun and amazing. This utilizes “classical conditioning” and “anchoring” to ingrain motivation into your physiology. It works with the fundamental underpinnings of the human mind, and the way your brain naturally stores, processes, and recalls information. There’s a reason every civilization since the dawn of time has created and then utilized rituals. They put you in a state of mind. In this case, motivated, creative, and focused. Did you ever wish you had a button you could just push to feel motivated and inspired? #goals

So in summary: Turn on a light, think happy thoughts, then finish one thing you’re excited about. It's as easy as that, and it really work. (Tip: Find an accountability partner, who you’re comfortable with. Someone you can share your progress with, that’ll help keep you motivated. Have an online meeting, or lunch somewhere with them, once a week. It’ll drastically improve your productivity and consistency [by 95% in some studies])
